Social media and SEO efforts both work to increase traffic, conversion and retention to your website. They are the two big "S"es of online business. What you may not know, however, is that they are -- or can be -- two sides of the same coin.
Understanding the methods of each technique is essential for using the tools together. SEO is search engine optimization, strategies to help your website rank higher in Google, Bing, Yahoo and other user searches. Social media is more "getting the word out" through Twitter and Facebook.
How can one help the other? There are many ways. Put the keyword or keywords in your social media page titles. Decide which keyword is most important and make it a word in your Twitter page title, for example. This alone can help lead to higher rankings in searches.
Next, make your "tweets" and Facebook posts meaningful and informative. They should contain new and relevant information, with links back to your website. People quickly grow weary of obviously "spammy" messages and posts. The best way to build a following in social media is to be informative, funny, and perhaps even a bit edgy. Also, be sure your posts contain keywords.
